What was your favorite part about DIYing?
My favorite part was getting to create such beautiful floral pieces with my fiancé that we never thought we would be capable of making. It was so rewarding for us and we had a great time doing it together in our tiny hotel room the days leading up to our wedding. It is definitely a memory we will not forget!
Why did you choose to DIY your flowers?
I have always enjoyed doing creative projects and I did not have any other large DIYs planned for our wedding, so I thought taking on the florals would be a great idea. I fell in love with the concept of Flower Moxie, it was the perfect guide for an amateur like myself to feel confident taking on such a daunting task. Another big motivator was the massive price difference of DIY versus hiring a florist. It fit much better into our personal budget for our wedding and
Who did you have help from?
Just my fiancé and myself!
Where did you get married and why did you choose this location?
We got married at the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs, NY. I am from the tristate area and my fiancé is from Buffalo NY, so Saratoga was the perfect in-between location and we absolutely love the town. The Canfield Casino is a breathtaking historic venue, we both fell in love with the old architecture.

Was it a destination wedding?
Mini-destination, a 4 hour drive from Buffalo, NY.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Too hard to pick 1 so I'll give a top 3:
1. Our ceremony! My dad officiated the ceremony and it was such a special moment for us all.
2. Our DJ, Wade Walker at OtherBrother Entertainment, there is no better DJ!! He was the most complimented part of our day.
3. Taking photos with our photographer, Sam Renaud. She is such a joy to work with and delivered us the most beautiful photos of our day that we get to cherish for the rest of our lives!
In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?
I would have had better time management for the day before the wedding, we planned to be doing a little too much and it made for a later and more hectic night than preferred.
Tips for future DIYers?
Have a clear plan for who will be transporting all your florals the day of your wedding and who will be setting them all up. Create a very clear outline of your vision so you are not stressed and don't need to worry about it the day of the wedding! Keep all the boxes the flowers came in, they were great transporters. We cut down wine cases to transport bud vases and it worked great. The most tedious part is prepping/trimming/hydrating all the florals, definitely get as much help as you can for that part.

Were there any funny or strange mishaps you can share?
My bridal bouquet was the last thing I had left to make on Friday and it was a major time crunch to get to our rehearsal dinner on time so I just threw together my bouquet as quickly as I could in about 5 minutes, it was nothing like I planned for it to look at all but it ended up being one of my favorite floral pieces I made!
How did you add personalized touches to your day?
On our card table we had wedding portraits of all our parents and grandparents and even some great-grandparents. We hand wrote every guest a personalized card that acted as their place setting, our guests loved this detail and it allowed us to share a special moment with every guest. We are both optometrists, so our seating chart had a subtle optometry pun incorporated into it. We had my dad officiate the ceremony. We did not have a wedding party, so the day was more focused on just us two.

Which part of your wedding are you most proud of?
Honestly my floral vision coming to life better than I could have imagined! And also being able to stay true to ourselves for all the details of our wedding. Our day was very representative of us and we loved every moment of it.
