What was your favorite part about DIYing?

I think my favorite part about DIYing was being able to fully pick my flowers and know what they will look like before the day of.

Why did you choose to DIY your flowers?

Honestly the main reason I chose to DIY my flowers was cost. I knew I wanted a lot of flowers and to do that with a florist would have cost way more money than I could afford. But the other reason I did it was I knew I could. I love being creative and it seemed like an obvious choice.

Who did you have help from?

I had help for my sister and best friend. They really did the bulk of the work the wedding day and I am so grateful.

Where did you get married and why did you choose this location?

I got married at the Mayowood Stone Barn in Rochester, MN. The reason I chose this location was the romantic feel it had. I loved the reception barn with its beautiful stone and lights. Plus I wanted the ceremony outside and the lawn with its beautiful tree was perfect. They also offered a wonderful package and price.

Was it a destination wedding?

For me and my husband yes. I am originally from Minnesota near the twin cities but currently live in Portland Oregon. But for a good portion of the guest list they only had to travel an hour down to Rochester.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Oh that's hard. It was such an amazing day. I would have to say the ceremony. It was perfect in every way.

In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?

Oh gosh, overall no. Being a bride means you have to do so many things on your wedding day. From photos, talking to people, and trying to be present in the moment is a bit overwhelming. Due to all these things I missed a fair amount of dancing in the earlier part of the evening. So I think I'd try to do things later after all the people are tired from dancing and try to spend more time dancing.

Tips for future DIYers?

I knew I needed buckets but I way underestimated how many. Also make sure you have a truck or van to transport them if you have a lot. Luckily I did by default but I assumed it would fit in the back of an SUV and that was a no go. Also, give yourself the time to put the arrangements together. My sister was late with the flowers and we had to rush and it was no fun.

Were there any funny or strange mishaps you can share?

I think I got way more flowers then needed. But I also felt sad since being from out of town all the flowers were going to get thrown away at the end of the night. So I really tried to make bouquets and give as many flowers away as I could at the end of the night but still had some left. It was hard to leave them behind.

How did you add personalized touches to your day?

We are big book lovers. So one of the personal touches we did was have old library cards as table numbers and also out find you table sign was a big open book. My aunt who is a librarian loved it.

Which part of your wedding are you most proud of?

I think just that I designed every element from afar and didn't see it come together until the day of and it all was perfect. The color scheme, the table arrangements and the floral arrangements. Everyone said it was the most beautiful wedding they've gone to. Which was such amazing praise.

Anything else you would like to add?

Working with flower moxie and Jessica was so amazing! We came to them very last minute and they came through and helped amazingly through all the steps of getting the flowers ordered. Thank you!
