How to Get Blue and Cream Wedding Flowers
HOW TO GET THE BEST
Blue & Cream Wedding Flowers
ON A BUDGET
Author: Michela Thompson
Did you know that the color blue is one of the most popular colors in the world, but it's the rarest occurring color in nature? While blue is a darling wedding color with lots of sweet hues, it can be tough to achieve in florals. Luckily, we have curated excellent choices so you can be a blue DIY bride with all the style and none of the stress. Plus, they count for your something blue, too! In this blog we'll go over how to achieve these gorgeous hues without a major price tag.
The Blue Elements
Then I would bring in blue hydrangea. Just like your Aunt Blanche, hydrangeas are heavy drinkers. When properly hydrated, these guys perform. But if they don't get the water they need they will quickly wilt. If you have wilted hydrangeas, give them a fresh cut and place in fresh, clean water to rehydrate - they'll bounce back in several hours. They are great for the folks that want the dusty look because the blend of cream and white elements is really appealing to the eye and helps maintain the desired look.
Next bloom I would bring is Blue Thistle. This is a staple for a reason folks. First of all, it has great texture and second it has amazing color. Plus the price can't be beat. They are visually interesting and bring in masculine and feminine energy. They are a personal favorite of mine as well.
If I were building a blue event my very first choice would be Light Blue Delphinium. This is the perfect choice for the DIY bride who really wants that light and airy look. This bloom is also a great choice for texture, height, and price point. The only drawback is that these guys can shed so keep that in mind.
The next flower I would pull would be Blue Tweedia. Now, I will say that Tweedia has some drawbacks because (1) it's only available in summer, (2), it can be a bit delicate, and (3) it oozes a milk-like sap when cut. Be sure to give it a fresh cut and place in its own vase to let the sap drain out. It's really is a sweet flower that adds an amazing texture to arrangements!
After that I would grab some Indigo Veronica. Now this is closer to a violet color, but is a really gorgeous and unique hue. It has such great texture and price, so it's totally worth bringing in.
The Cream & Greenery Elements
So to achieve cream elements in floral design these are my go-tos. First, I'd go for White Carnations. These guys really do have it all. They have a lovely ruffled texture and the price can't be beat when it comes down to it.
Next I'd grab White Lisianthus. This is a double whammy, because it has a greenery element as well as a a pretty flowers at the end of the stem. They are also dependable as hell and really have a unique style to them, so they are a staple in our designs. We call them Lizzies in the office and it always makes me smile because I was obsessed with Lizzie McGuire as a kid. So you could say for me, Lizzies are what dreams are made of. (You don't have to pity laugh at that one, my jokes are mostly for me.)
Lastly, I would go for some White Ranunculus. According to our resident floral badass Sue, they are basically an organized rose. Instead of petals willy nilly, they have a structured look. This high petal count lends itself to a lot of texture and visual interest. The fatty heads can be a strain on their tiny bodies, but if you wire them they will perform like Shakira at the Super bowl.
For the greenery, I'll be shouting out some superstars, but you'll need to bring in a few more types to have full looking arrangements.
Firstly I'd grab Dusty Miller. I'm straight up obsessed with this stuff. First of all, it's great for breaking up into smaller pieces for centerpieces and things. But you will need to keep them hydrated or they will wilt quickly. Also be sure and keep the leaves out of the water so that the fuzzy appearance is not ruined.
Then go for the old standard, baby eucalyptus. This greenery naturally has a dusty film to it, making it perfect for anyone wanting a soft dreamy look. I also have a friend who cuts it up and puts it in her shower for sinuses. Only downside is it gets your hands sticky when you cut it.
This Dusty Blue and Cream Collection is a great choice if all of these flowers sound like winners for your event. It is so pretty and delicate and truly feels like it draws the attention to you, your dress, and your other elements. It doesn't outshine you and it doesn't hide, it just truly makes a delicate and classy impact.
