Every wedding tells a story, and Jamie’s DIY celebration was as personal as it was unforgettable. Inspired by the moody charm of the California coast and her venue’s cozy vibes, she chose to create her own floral arrangements with the help of family and friends. From mimosas in the backyard to reading the vows before the ceremony, her day was filled with meaningful moments. Make some pop corn and keep reading for more details.
Tell us about your relationship!
We both went to school at Georgia Tech, and had many mutual friends - but didn't become friends ourselves until we each independently moved to San Francisco after college. We dated for 6 years before Kyle proposed on Christmas morning
Where did you get married and why did you choose this location? Was it a destination wedding?
We got married at the Pelican Inn in Marin. It was a destination for all of our family, but only about an hour drive from SF for us. I've always wanted to stay the night there, and was excited about the practical ways they approach holding weddings. They also have such killer wine and food - so it was a no-brainer.

How did you go about choosing your wedding color palette? Did it change throughout your planning process?
I was so inspired by the California coast and our venue's moody color palette. I realized quickly that white and ivory would really stand out - and a minimal color palette would make arranging easier!

Why did you choose to DIY your flowers?
I love flower arranging and drying, so I was interested in DIYing from the start. Our venue was already so visually interesting, so I knew we wouldn't need a ton of flowers to make a big impact with them, so budget-wise it also made sense!
Who did you have help from?
My sister and all four of our parents helped out a ton! Getting the flowers to the destination was all coordinated by my sister! I'll never forget watching my twin and Father in Law moving around our ground arch on the day of.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Reading our vows to each other before the ceremony.
What was your favorite part about DIYing?
Getting everyone together with mimosas in our backyard!
In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?
No regrets! I'd probably have done a little more ground work on introducing my vendors to my day of coordinator. Email intros were so different than the day-of conversations that helped make the day run more smoothly.
Tips for future DIYers?
Consider how larger pieces will break down for transporting; this took a bit of conversation and reworking to get right. Save your boxes to help with the transportation.
Were there any funny or strange mishaps you can share?
Definitely practice making a few boutonnieres before the day of! Wrapping them took a few tries to get right.
How did you add personalized touches to your day?
I was especially excited to wear my wedding crocs!
Which part of your wedding are you most proud of?
Everyone loved the food and wine - and made it onto the shuttles safely!
