What is one tool you’d never leave the studio without on wedding day?
Can I pick 2? Floral shears and wire for sure!
What’s your best piece of advice for a DIY bride?
Practice, practice, practice- buy cheap grocery store flowers and practice putting together your design types before the week of the wedding. You will feel so much more prepared and confident the week of if you have practiced working with the various supplies and practiced different design techniques.
What floral trend do you secretly hope sticks around forever?
Grounded ceremony arrangements- they look amazing during the ceremony but can also be easily moved and repurposed for the reception.
What’s the one thing all brides should [do/have] the day/morning of their wedding?
Try and slow down (as much as you can) and soak it all in. You have probably spent months, sometimes years, dreaming and planning for this day. Make sure to stay in the moment and enjoy the time with your spouse, family, and friends who are there to celebrate you.
What color palette will you never get tired of designing with?
Classic white and green! I think this color palette is timeless, elegant, and you will never look back and regret doing something too "trendy".
Wedding day drink of choice:
Red Wine is always my go to! I also love to try signature cocktails if couples provide them at their wedding. So fun to try the bride/grooms drink of choice!
What’s your biggest wedding mistake? Save some lives here.
Oh gosh, using hydrangeas. In Texas. Outside. In the Summer. As a newbie I did not realize just how easily hydrangeas can go south if they get too hot or don’t have enough water.
What’s one thing you’d go back in time and tell your past self on your wedding day?
I know this gets said a lot- but don’t sweat the small stuff. In the grand scheme of things nothing on your wedding day matters other than the fact that you and your spouse are getting married. Also, most likely none of your guests will even notice if something goes wrong. And if they do it will most likely turn into a funny story.
Your favorite snack on design days
Hmmm, not really a snack but I am a big coffee lover! I love a good latte (or 2) while I am designing.
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about florists?
We are not out to take advantage of you. Flowers are expensive and creating high quality designs takes time. Most of us have spent years developing the skills needed to execute the dream Pinterest weddings.
What’s your favorite thing about working with DIY brides/couples?
I love being a part of helping couples bring their wedding flower dreams to life! I love helping them work through logistics and build their confidence to
Funniest/most embarrassing moment at a wedding (either yours or something you witnessed)
This is probably one of those, “you had to be there” moments but my funniest moment was at my own wedding. My husband and I got married in Telluride at a lodge in the mountains during December. There was a Christmas tree in the reception space that was supposed to be moved prior to the wedding. The Christmas tree kept getting moved to various spots to try and get it out of the way.
One of our wedding guests ended up knocking over the Christmas tree on their way into the reception and all of the glass ornaments shattered on the ground. The wedding coordinator ended up picking up the tree and chunking it out the back door of the lodge on the ground. The funny part was you could see the tree laying on the ground through the reception room windows the whole night. We got a lot of great pictures with the discarded tree at my wedding.
