Lesson Three

Wedding Organization Week AKA Wow AKA Week of Wine

Lesson Overview

Goal: Achieve max wedding-week mental game. Get good and ready to receive blooms with tips to keep your mind right.

Make it happen: By the beginning of your wedding week, right before you receive your blooms.

Breeze through this lesson: In under 10 minutes.

One Monday you will wake up and realize it’s here! And despite what Miranda told Charlotte, you do get a week...not just a day. (if you're not a SATC fan, this reference will be lost on you...)

What friends and wedding blogs fail to warn you about is the amplified emotional energy you'll be expending. So long as you know it's coming and how to be prepared, you'll come out smiling on the other side.

Task #1: Get the good dip and text reminders your helpers.

Snacks and Adult Beverages:  Brides, you will forget to eat and drink the week of your wedding. Load up on your favorite non-bloating snacks, fruit, La Croix, and wine. And above all else remember to HYDRATE.

Your buddies are another story. Place all cheese puffs and artichoke dips at their fingertips to keep them fueled for flower building.

Review Your Timeline: Print your timeline and hang it on the wall. This is your gameplan for the next few days. View timeline here.

Text Your Squad:  Your wedding may be consuming your every waking thought, but your bestie may have her mind on her upcoming Tinder date.

Send out a text that is equal parts informative and appreciative: "Pretty sure the best part of my wedding will be making flowers with you guys. Thank you SO much for your help. As a reminder, please bring <mention any specifics> and I will supply the best White Claw flavors."

Task #2: Marie Kondo that sitch.

  • Water Buckets and Vases: Fill your flower buckets and vases with water BEFORE you receive your shipment. That way, you can quickly cut, soak, and unwrap.

  • Organize Supplies and Set up Vase Mechanics:
    • Pull out all the supplies that have been hiding in the closet where you store your Costco TP.
    • Tape your vase mechanics like foam, chicken wire, or tape a grid so they are ready for water and flowers when your helpers arrive.

  • Provide Reference Sheets:
    • Print off your flower recipes for your helpers. This will keep your Aunt Blanche from going rogue and building a ranunculus-only centerpiece that she's way too proud of.
    • Remember that course worksheet you've been diligently filling out? Tape that bish on the wall. As a florist, I never skip this step because it keeps me organized, ensures I don’t forget to set aside cake flowers, and gives me line items to cross off. It will also keep your helper crew on task.

Task #3: Get your mind right

I've seen chill, above-it-all girls lose their marbles on wedding week.

There are a lot of tender feelings, fears, nervous bellies, and weird family dynamics that can cause you to want to drink gin from the cat dish. But you’ve planned your little heart out, and now it’s time to adopt the “I can’t give a shit” attitude BECAUSE YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED and that's what matters!

Take a deep breath and know you’re going to marry your best friend by the end of the week. That's cooler than anything Post Malone will ever do. So while you can't control your soon-to-be mother-in-law or drama-queen bestie, you can control your own thoughts and energy.

This is going to be amazing!!
