Lesson Five

Design Time

Lesson Overview

Goal: Build arrangements so beautiful, people will have to second-base them.

Make it happen: The day before your wedding. Say it with me: "My wedding day will not be a design day."

Read Time: In under 10 minutes.

Today is the day you make family history as the coolest cousin/kid/sibling/auntie. Who is making their own arrangements? YOU ARE. And who is going to have the best time doing it? ALSO YOU.

Task: Print recipes and set up stations

  • Post It Up:  Time to be overly organized. Pass out your recipes and tape up the list of everything you need to make so you and your helpers can rock and roll. Have a few devices available (away from water buckets, please) in case someone needs to watch a tutorial.

  • Pull Bridal Bouquet Flowers First:  Snag all the best stems for the bridal bouquet and set those aside. Although you will build your bridal bouquet last, you want to make sure the show-stoppers are saved for you!

  • Pre-Section Recipes:  If you have the space and extra vases, pre-section your recipes out and create stations for arrangement types.

  • Green Out Your Centerpieces In Advance:  See the video below for more details! Although this is option, it's a great way of getting a head start the night you get your blooms. Just make sure you've set aside all bouquet greenery first.

  • Build A Mock-up:  Make one centerpiece or bridesmaid bouquet before your helpers arrive to set a solid reference point.

  • Assign Arrangements to Helpers:  Repetition is your friend. If one person focuses on 1-2 arrangement types, they will finish faster and faster.
    • When building a lot of centerpieces, it’s helpful to have one person filling out greenery and another person backfilling with blooms.
    • Assign tasks based on skill or the artistic level of the helper. Give your non-crafty friend easy things to do like bud vases, greening out centerpieces, simple bouts, etc.

  • Pack for Transport: Remember the flower boxes we told you to save? If you’re able to pre-pack your arrangements in boxes and laundry baskets without them getting smooshed overnight, knock it out while everyone is there. This will make for easy/quick loading on the wedding day!
  •

This is going to be amazing!!
